Sacred Rhythms - Invitation to Spiritual Transformation
Posted by VCC on February 16, 2014 at 2:23 PM

We are starting a series that is a true follow-up to the one that we have just finished, about finding answers to life's big questions, with the last topic broaching this whole idea of a relationship with Jesus. For most of you who are new to faith, and for many who are still trying to feel your way through the reality of Jesus, the idea of having a relationship with Him can be a bit of a mystery. Our new series, which is based on the book called Sacred Rhythms, written by Ruth Haley Barton (from which our series gets its title), will more directly address developing a rhythm to our lives, which includes a refreshing, meaningful relationship with God. Today, we will look at how such a relationship is an Invitation to Spiritual Transformation.

Unexpected Answers to Life's Big Questions - How Do We Respond to Live Life Right?
Posted by VCC on January 26, 2014 at 2:25 PM

We continue our series of addressing what many of us wonder about; which is ultimately important to all of us, though we may not speak about it much, because the answers seem out of reach. We’re talking about unexpected answers to life's big questions. I'm referring to the universal questions having to do with the meaning of life; the problem of the world, how I can engage in making it better or live it right. Philosophy has been engaged in this since its inception, which has led to exploration into science, all in an attempt to come up with answers. For honest skeptics, concerning God and His activity, these are the big questions, though some will say it doesn't matter and we should just take life as it comes, but this is not honest. We all relate to the world and each other out of a set of beliefs. We have already seen where we might look for the answers, what’s wrong with the world, and how things can be made right. Today we’ll see how we respond to Jesus, answering the question how we can live right.

Is there an answer to the world’s problems?

Unexpected Answers to Life's Big Questions - What is Wrong with the World?
Posted by VCC on January 12, 2014 at 10:33 AM

We are continuing our talk about unexpected answers to life's big questions, referring to the universal questions having to do with the “meaning of life”. "What is the world is for", "What is our place in it", "What is wrong with the world" and "How can I engage in making it better", or live it right. Philosophy has been engaged in this since its inception, which has led to exploration into science; all in an attempt to come up with answers. For honest skeptics, concerning God and His activity, these are the big questions; though some will say it doesn't matter and we should just take life as it comes, but this is not honest. We all relate to the world and each other out of a set of belief systems. This morning, we will tackle the basic question of what is wrong with the world, why don’t people get along.

Unexpected Answers to Life's Big Questions - Where Do We Look?
Posted by VCC on January 6, 2014 at 8:58 PM

I thought it would be a good way to kick off this New Year by addressing what many of us wonder about; which is ultimately important to us, though we may not speak about it, because the answers seem out of reach to us or beyond our own comprehension. So we will be talking about unexpected answers to life's big questions. I'm referring to the universal questions having to do with the "meaning of life." "What's the world is for", "What's our place in it", "What's wrong with the world" and "How can I engage in making it better" or live it right. Philosophy has been engaged in this since its inception which has led to exploration into science, all in an attempt to come up with answers, to have a better understanding of it and our place in creation. For honest skeptics, concerning God and His activity, these are the big questions, though some will say it doesn't matter and we should just take life as it comes, but this is not honest. We do things and, relate to the world and each other, out of a set of belief systems; so...where did those come from? This morning we'll tackle the basic question of where do we look? Where do we look for the answers to the big question of life?
