The Book of Judges - Chapter 3 - When I am Weak
Posted by VCC on June 29, 2014 at 12:38 PM

We are in the midst of a summer series, going through the book of Judges. Admittedly, this Old Testament book can be a bit challenging, even offensive, to modern or post-modern sensibilities, and without a proper understanding of what the main issues are we actually miss the point because of some visceral reaction. At the same time, Judges fits our present day culture, particularly as seen in our popular action movies, which are flooded with anti-hero types; Ironman, the Tom Cruise movies, older movies like the Matrix or even Clint Eastwood-type movies. Today, our study will throw us right into the story as we are introduced to our first judges/deliverers that God raises up for His people, and see if there is something that we can learn of God’s faithfulness toward us even today, as He helps us finish the statement “when I am weak...”

The Book of Judges - Chapters 1 and 2 - The Emergency of Faith
Posted by VCC on June 22, 2014 at 12:12 PM

We are beginning a summer series, something that we have done for many years now, and that is to go through a specific book in the Bible. With people going on vacation, and filling in their "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" outlines, as we spoke in the last series, going through an entire book lends to a Soap Opera-ish flow where though you may miss one week's episode/topic, you still have the general feel of what is going on. Each week will be important and there are topics that we all need to hear, but we will still be in the same book for some weeks. The book we are looking at is the book of Judges. Admittedly, this Old Testament book can be a bit challenging, even offensive, to modern or post-modern sensibilities. The point being, without a proper understanding of what the main issues are, we actually miss the point because of some visceral reaction. At the same time, Judges fits our present day culture, particularly as seen in our popular movies, plays and books which are flooded with anti-hero types (Ironman, much of today's Tom Cruise movies, older movies like the Matrix, Clint Eastwood-type movies and movies that portray Vampires as heroes). This morning, we will look at the first part our study which will encompass chapters 1 and 2, highlighting an overview of the entire book as we contemplate the emergency of faith.

What I Did On My Summer Vacation - Reached Out to My Neighbors
Posted by VCC on June 1, 2014 at 12:59 PM

We are continuing with a new series that we started a few weeks ago. Just as many of us were asked by our teachers to write an essay about our months off from school, we have been forming an outline in advance for a report, a testimony really, entitled What I Did On My Summer Vacation. This is a five-point outline where each week highlights some area that the Bible considers important to a healthy life which we will relate to the opportunities that summer brings to most of us. Here, we will look at something very profound in its implications, practical in its living-out the Bible and ultimately super-rewarding and fun! The third point of our summer essay on What I Did On My Summer Vacation is that I reached out to my neighbors.

The Benefits of Knowing Christ - A Virtuous Life
Posted by VCC on May 11, 2014 at 12:54 PM

We are finishing a short series on the benefits of knowing Christ. Having just enjoyed a wonderful Easter Celebration, we thought it appropriate to consider this new life that we have in Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus is all about new life; not only a new life to come to us sometime in the future, but one that we are offered, right now. Throughout this series, we utilized a very famous portion of scripture, one that we have tackled in the past in more detail known as “The Fruit of the Spirit”. For this series, we took the logical grouping of the fruit and spoke to topics that they best describe. Today, we will see that we are being called to a virtuous life.
