Easter - More Than It Appears
Posted by VCC on April 22, 2014 at 2:57 PM

Regrettably, due to some technical issues, we cannot post the audio portion of the sermon.

Today, we are celebrating the most important event, not just in the lives of those who are considered in some sense “religious”, but in all of human history! There is no event more sweeping in its scope, more significant in its meaning, or more personal in its understanding. Jesus is risen! He died and was buried, but did not remain that way. Why? Why was Jesus raised from the grave three days after He was laid there, and why is it important? For some, this day is just another day, to others it’s a time they look forward to be with family; yet to most this day is more than it appears.

40 Days of Faith - Humility That Brings Healing - Care For Your Own - Part 1
Posted by VCC on April 13, 2014 at 4:15 PM

Please note: This is the beginning of the sermon, before the reading of 1 Timothy.

This is the final Sunday of Lent, the 40 day time frame in preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Lent is a time of refection, repentance and hope. During Lent, people fast and pray; humbling themselves before God as a sign of their devotion, but more than that, to truly renew their commitment to Jesus. We read Isaiah 58, which took us through our entire 40-day experience, recognizing that God is looking for humility that brings healing. In our sixth humility challenge, we see that healing comes to us and others as we care for our own.

Humility That Brings Healing - Restitution
Posted by VCC on March 9, 2014 at 10:48 AM

This is the first Sunday of Lent which is the 40 day time frame in preparation for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus. Lent started this past week on "Ash Wednesday" and is a time of refection, repentance and hope. So during Lent people fast and pray; humbling themselves before God as a sign of their devotion, but more than that, to truly renew their commitment to Jesus. Last week we introduced Isaiah 58, the chapter in the Bible that will take us through our entire 40 Day experience recognizing that God is looking for, in His People, a humility that brings healing, not just to themselves but to others. This morning we'll look at the first, of six, humility challenges God says brings healing. It's called Restitution.

Introduction to Lent - A Humility that Heals
Posted by VCC on March 3, 2014 at 4:51 PM

Today, we are kicking-off the most important season in the entire Christian calendar!  These next several weeks are known as Lent (the word simply means: "lengthening" as in the lengthening of days - happening now).  It is in this time frame we are in expectation of spring, when trees and flowers that were dormant, come back to life.  Lent is then that time frame that we are preparing for the celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus - once dead and come back to life.  Lent starts on what is traditionally known as "Ash Wednesday" and initiates a 40-Day time frame, (commemorating Jesus' 40 Days in the dessert), a time of refection, repentance and hope. So, during Lent, people have always fasted, prayed and humbled themselves before God, as a sign of their devotion, but more than that, to truly renew their commitment to Jesus. This morning, we will introduce the chapter in the Bible that will take us through our entire 40 Days of Faith observance,  recognizing that God is looking for a humility that heals.
