This morning we will be embarking on a two part series coupling together this season of Advent, the weeks in preparation of Christmas and what we believe God is presently doing *with us. We see both prophetically in our series title. Something’s Brewing, a phrase God gave me many weeks ago, to highlight the fact that “something’s up”. Surfing We sense God’s movement, His leading, and see His activity. As we have pointed out, Advent simply means “coming”. It is the Latin form of the word “Parousia” in Greek often used to highlight Jesus’ coming again. Philip H. Pfatteicher, formerly a professor at East Stroudsberg University, notes that "since the time of Bernard of Clairvaux (d.1153), Christians have spoken of the three comings of Christ: in the flesh in Bethlehem, in our hearts daily, and in glory at the end of time". So in this first part of our series we’ll look at an aspect of John the Baptist’s life, recognizing that *both he and we have been born with a purpose distinctly tied to the coming of the Lord.
